I must be a boring person

Friday, August 13, 2010

Stayed at home today :)
I got some homework done and I was supposed to go clubbing with bec. However, I got a phone call from bec saying that she was going out with Micheal instead. Last friday we were supposed to go clubbing but nobody was free so we postponed it. I was kinda super excited to go and disapointed when we didnt. However, bec and michael needed to spend some time together so I tried not to let it bother me. I feel like i dont have much of a life, I cant just call someone up and make alternate plans. I feel like im a boring person who must rely on the fun times bec is going to have that night. It would be nice to be able to invite her to something for a change to thank her and feel like im giving back.
Instead I stayed in with Peter and Anita. We watched a good show called Waking the Dead. Its a mystery, long show, and very good. Something Sam would watch. I liked it.

I like thursdays

Thursday, August 12, 2010

In the morning I gave Chrissy a ring to sing her happy birthday. She didnt answer so I sang to the machine.
10-12 Psychology
2:15- 3:15 Polotics
4:15-5:15 Pol tute

I dont really know what it is but I really like thursdays. maybe it has something to do with me enjoying my psychology course or maybe because i feel like its my last day before the weekend. i try to do something fun afterwards and today Zoe, Carolin, and I were having dinner. Instead of going out to dinner Carolin decided to cook for us. After class finished I went to the library for a bit and then jumped on the tram to go pick up some tomatoes and mustard Zoe had asked me to get. I got to melb central station and I went to where I had seen a grocery. It turns out that it was an asain grocery. I asked them if they had tomatoes- no. I asked them if they had dejon mustard- what was that?? they didnt know what that was but they didnt have mustard anyway. They told me to try next door at Coles. Ive been taking the train to and from school for over a week and I never noticed the Coles grocery right next to it even though i took full notice of the asain grocery. I picked up the mustard (turned out we didnt need the tomatoes) and jumped on the tram to get to the villiage. Turns out I jumped on the wrong tram and kinda ended up on the wrong street. So i figured my way to the villiage (Sidenote: I have a wonderful sense of direction when I actually pay attention. In sydney I was the one getting us around when we were on our own. And at Uni when we were doing the orientation, I was the one who got us around to all the buildings. Just saying!!).
I showed up to Carolins at 7pm. She had already started cooking so I handed over the mustard and tried to see if there was anything I could do. There wasnt so I sat and chatted with them. For dinner we had a salad and Chicken, onions, and zuccinni in a creamy sauce on top of rice. Very good.
At about 8:30 I left to jump on a tram and come "home". I got a pickup from the station did stuff on my comp and went to bed.

Happy Birthday Chrissy and Cooking Pasta with Mom

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

No school today (cept an hour lecture online)!!!!
I got to sleep in and relax in the morning (yes), it was wonderful. I got up at about 11am. The house was empty, Peter at work, Anita at work, and Bec at uni and then work. I told them that since I was home for the day I would take care of dinner. I had peter get met some of the ingredients to make moms pasta sauce. However, when I looked at the items I had to work with they were a little different (for instance at home we use a whole can of tomato paste, in australia the tomato past is heaps bigger so I couldnt use the whole bottle). I called mom to ask her to go on skype to see if she could help me. Mom was great, she went through everything with me and then stayed on while I made everything. She was fantastic and I hope she reads this because it really was wonderful of her.
After cooking I let mom go because it was night over there. I then got on with chrissy on skype to wish her happy birthday. She turned 26 and when I talked to her she was still on tuesday the 10th, so not her bday yet. Our chat was quick because she was tired but it was nice to say hey and happy birthday.
I put the sauce in the fridge and went off to do my lecture online. After the lecture I fooled around for a bit till Bec came home and later Peter and Anita. I then got dinner simmering and put the angel hair noodles on. I was supposed to add red wine, basil and bay leaves but when I asked Anita and Peter for them all they had was the wine. The sauce tasted pretty much like moms but it was missing some ingredients. They seemed to like it: peter didnt say much (his sauce is very different with heaps of veggies and a bit more oil), Anita liked it a lot, and Bec seemed to like it too but I must have served her too much so she didnt finish her noodles but ate all the sauce. In the end I was just happy to eat real pasta. lol.

Tuesday Tangle

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Today was not very interesting, very regular.

10am Indigenous studies
library including nap : )
2:15 Politics
4:14 Indigenous Studies tute

During the day I had been trying to get my hands on an Aboriginal studies reader- a book sold at the bookstore that contains all the reading (taken from multiple sources) required during the semester. The book is 28$ and the only one you need for that class. Pretty fantastic. However, I had a paper due in two fridays that I wanted to get over with and they didnt have any more copies at the store. Until this point all the readings had been supplied for free online, hence why I didnt already buy it. When I went to do the reading for this week, the topic of my paper, they were having copywrite issues so they werent supplied online. I emailed the professor complaining how there was no way to write my paper with no copies at the store, nothing in the library and nothing online. In two days she made it accessible online. Sticking up for myself feels good.

After school I got home, ate dinner and watched Tangles. Peter told me that Kat will be in another show coming out this Sunday called Offspring. I cant wait!

First day of my easy week at uni and Blog from 7/31/10

Monday, August 9, 2010

I call this my easy week because every other week (fortnight) I have a 2 hour psychology prac and a 3 hour genetics prac. This week I have neither so I only go in 3 times for class and listen to my genetics lectures online the other days. Nothing really exciting happened, just the usual:
10am Indigenous Studies
2:15 Genetics Tute
3:15 Genetics Lecture

It was kinda a long day. I took a nap in the library and just kinda fooled around until class was done. When I got back home nothing of any interest happened. Sorry.

I did notice that I skipped Saturday, July 31, 2010

From what I remember nothing really happened in the day time. Bec, Micheal and I did end up going to two 21st birthday parties. The first one belonged to Brigid, a girl Bec was friends with from high school. We stayed maybe an hour and a half and then got on the road to get to the next one. The second one was way more fun however I dont remember what the Bday boys name was (Bec and him both go to Victoria Uni majoring in exercise science). I got talking to some guys and they found it exciting to talk to an american and it kept me entertained. I had fun (especially when talking to Lee, an Aussie guy). Dear chrissy and mom: dont worry about me falling in love here. Its not likely to happen in 5 months and if it does they have to come back to america because the job market for detectives is impossible. They dont have enough crime here to need my services). We got back around 1 and went to bed.

Moms bday in America

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Today was moms 50th Birthday (Happy birthday again mom). I gave her a skype call and talked for 2 hours. During the day I essentially just did homework- reading for class. It was interesting- I read an article about teaching monkeys language and if it was possible for them to actually understand what they were doing as opposed to just memorizing a stimulus and reacting properly. The reading was for psych.
At about 5 Bec came home and we had dinner. After dinner we went over to Laura and Daniels for drinks. Jess and Dav came in later. We chatted for a while and then played Hogwarts Clue. Everyone got tired of clue so we decided to play the game where you put different peoples names on each others forehead and you have to guess what you have on yours. It was fun. At around 1 or 12 we came home and went to bed.

Dont say "Shrimp on the Barbie"

Saturday, August 7, 2010

Bec woke me up from Sarah and Mic's couch at 7am. She had to get back home to get ready for work at 8:30 or 9. We got back "home" and I went back to bed. Woke up around 11am and thought Anita, Bec and I were going to go to the Melbourne Museum. Turns out that didnt happen because Anita had something she was obligated to do. I was a bit bummed because that meant that my plans failed and I had nothing to do. I kinda just hung out around the house for a while. Then about 3pm Bec came home and we got ready to go over to Mic and Sarahs again for a Barbie. We stopped by the grocery to pick up some drinks- coolers for bec and Bacardi rum for me. We got on the road at 5 and got a bit lost. Finally we found their place again (hadnt we just been there the night before?). We sat around for a while as Mic and Sarah prepared dinner and put it on the grill. A guy named Josh showed up as they were preparing dinner and ate with us. They made steak, sausage, chicken wings, salad, mushies, drinks and cheesecake. It was very lovely and my first aussie barbie!

*****Culture Note: The saying, "Shrimp on the Barbie" is completely incorrect. Australians have barbecued for a long time. However, they never put shrimp on the barbecue. This idea was never introduced until globalization. Before that they would steam or cook the shrimp. In addition, you dont say shrimp here. They call them prawns. So even if they were to have "shrimp on the barbie" today they would actually call it prawns on the barbie.*****

We chatted it up (topic: how to murder someone in the perfect murder, it was inspired by the fact that they found out I do forensic science) and watched a movie (Bad boys i believe).

At around 12 we left, got home at 1 and I went to bed.
